Welcome to Rock Shapes.

Rock Shapes is a series of paintings about the ground. I really enjoy looking at it (from the air, through water, while walking around, etc.) and these paintings exist to capture some of its drama and variety.

The creation process imitates a lot of geological sagas themselves. The surfaces are built up in relief and worn back down. Seams, faults and mineral flecks surface through layers of colour, the way they do in a cliff face or a cut road.

Each work is a single original, painted by hand.
